Tim in Maine, THE EXISTENTIAL LENS

My home state of Maine is "Vacationland" (so is says on the license plate). I was up there recently, and sometimes it seemed like a vacation from reality. Here are some things that caught my eye:

Front page news, in my home town.

4th of July parade: Shriners preparing to shrine.

Clown huddle.

Who's coming to he Oxford Fair? Only KENNY ROGERS! (I think the headline should say "Country Music Legend," even though it's the county fair, and he sang "Coward of the County.") He hasn't aged a bit.

Hows' the water? "Colder than a well-digger's ass in January" (local expression).

Island Snake Removal: read carefully for pricing and contact info. I would start with Oliver's mom.

I like this place. They do two things and do them right.

Maine driveway.

Another driveway. (T ucke s  No Read S gn.)

It can get a little too "Coen Brothers" up there.

Glad to be back in New York, where things are a lot more normal.
